Where to start your research?

Many students ask themselves, how can I find current literature for my academic work? The Scopus database is a very good place to start. Scopus is a multidisciplinary bibliographic database (authors, title, source, short summary of the full text) and at the same time a citation database for international research literature. The "View at Publisher" button takes you to the full text if it is licensed by the university. Practically all subject areas are covered: Natural sciences, technology, medicine, social sciences, arts and humanities.

More than 57 million literature references dating back to 1970 with over 150 million references are available. In addition, 27 million patents and 500 million high-quality Internet sources are also searched. The alerts function allows you to be kept up to date with new additions to the database. Further search tips can be found in the tutorials.

Citation analysis is at the heart of Scopus. It can be used to answer questions such as:

  • Who cites whom?
  • Who is cited by whom? TIP: This allows you to go from older known references to the latest new references.
  • Which sources does an author cite most frequently?
  • Which institution deals with a specific topic?
