Wikipedia as a legal source?

On March 3 and 4, 2017, the symposium "Wikipedia as a legal source - practice - fiction - standard" took place at the FU Hagen.

On 3 and 4 March 2017, the symposium "Rechtsquelle Wikipedia? - Praxis - Fiktion - Standard" organized by the Chair of Public Law, Legal Rhetoric and Legal Informatics at the University of Hagen (Professor Dr. Katharina Gräfin von Schliefen) took place in Hagen.

At the event, representatives from academia and practice discussed the consequences of the increasing use of the online encyclopaedia in legal professions and the resulting requirements for academia and the judiciary.

In the division "Wikipedia and case law", Professor Dr. Erik Hahn spoke on the topic of "Wikipedia as a source of judicial knowledge". He dealt with the question of whether and under what conditions judges may rely on Wikipedia alone or in addition when establishing facts.

The manuscript of the lecture will be published as a contribution to the conference proceedings planned for the end of the year.
