24. February 2026

From the E-Werk to the lecture hall

At the beginning of February, the HSZG senior citizens' college was a guest at Stadtwerke Weißwasser GmbH.

The Seniorenkolleg of the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences was once again a guest of Stadtwerke Weißwasser GmbH and offered interested citizens and community representatives from Weißwasser and the surrounding area the opportunity to receive first-hand information on an important energy policy topic and at the same time get to know a regionally based research project.

This year there was a continuation on the topic of "heat supply". The first contribution was in 2024, when Professor Dr.-Ing. Alexander Kratzsch spoke about the "AQVA-Heat" research project, in which the HSZG and Stadtwerke Weißwasser are involved. This was followed this year by the lecture "Challenges of an ecological, economical and socially acceptable heat supply" by Prof. Dr.-Ing.

In addition to interested citizens and some community representatives, active members of the "Seniorenverein Kraftwerk Boxberg/Weißwasser" (Boxberg/Weißwasser Power Station Seniors' Association) also took part in the college. Dipl-Ing. Roland Gelbrich from Weißwasser, who used to work in coal mining himself, has been involved in educational programs aimed at older people for over two decades. "We are delighted to receive up-to-date information on the status of the energy transition and ongoing scientific research projects in the region from the university and the municipal utilities."

The event cooperation with Stadtwerke Weißwasser GmbH shows how important regional discussion forums are. The small format "Seniorenkolleg vor Ort in Region" is a variant of the presence of teaching and research of the HSZG in the north of the district of Görlitz and in the region in general.
