Students of the Master's degree program in International Tourism Management report on their field trip/course / fieldwork in the Zittau Mountains.
In October 2021, students on the Master's degree program in International Tourism Management went on a one-day excursion to the border triangle. As part of their project in the "Mobility of the Future" module, their journey took them to the Zittau Mountains Nature Park. The aim of the semester-long project is to revise the trail concept for hikers, cyclists and skiers in the nature park with regard to the mobility of the future.
The excursion kicked off in the morning at the Nature Park House in Waltersdorf. After an independent discovery tour through the current adventure exhibition (including the acquisition of the so-called JUNIOR ranger pass), there was an interesting discussion round with the nature park representative, Mr. Pachl, in the context of the project.
As a local expert, he then led the students on a hike through the nature park to the neuralgic points in the Zittau Mountains' network of trails. The tour led from Waltersdorf to Jonsdorf, past the Nonnenfelsen rock and the gondola ride to the narrow-gauge railroad station in the spa town of Oybin.
The successful degree was the return trip on the historic narrow-gauge railroad to Zittau in the afternoon. The students enjoyed a relaxing end to the day in good autumn weather with colorful leaves and warm sunshine. They were able to eat in the dining car or even enjoy a fresh breeze in the open carriage. At the end of the winter semester, the students will present their findings and results to the stakeholders of the Zittau Mountains.
