International Business Communication at the HSZG in Görlitz - how did you come to study this course?
I chose the HSZG because I wanted to stay in the region right from the start - I grew up in Bautzen, about 40 km away. I looked at the universities and colleges in Saxony to find out which courses would be suitable for me. I already knew that I wanted to study something related to management, as I always enjoyed organizing, planning, presenting and being creative at school. However, I only actually started studying health care management at the HSZG. However, I quickly realized that the course wasn't for me and I was able to switch thanks to the university team. At first I was a bit scared of the change, but I listened to my gut feeling and I'm still very happy with my decision today. In general, I think that a change of degree course or training is too often associated with uncertainty or indecision and is viewed negatively. But how are you supposed to know what's right for you if you haven't tried it out? There's no shame in changing your mind if you're happier afterwards.
Why did you change and how did you realize that the degree course was the right one for you?
I don't think I really looked at what subjects and topics I enjoyed at school when I was choosing my first degree course - but that's usually a good guide. I tended to choose based on what I'd like to be good at, rather than what I'm already good at and what I can develop and use. The most important thing is to be enthusiastic about the majority of the subjects on the course, as this is the only way to keep yourself motivated.
Who would you recommend this course to?
I recommend the degree program to anyone who is interested in topics such as administration and communication, e.g. marketing, communication psychology or interviewing. The modules are wide-ranging and you can deepen your knowledge during your studies, which opens up many career opportunities in the field of communication. For example, you can later work in HR management, social media, online marketing or project management. You should also enjoy languages, as you will learn Czech or Polish for four semesters during your studies. But you shouldn't be afraid of that! You really start with the basics and the lecturers are very committed and kind. Overall, I can also recommend the university itself. I feel very comfortable and, in my experience, you can always find someone willing to help if you have any problems. Görlitz is also a very nice city to live in. I love that everything is so close: the old town and culture as well as Lake Berzdorf for relaxing and being active - and as we all know, it's easier to study where it's good to live. All in all, I'm very happy with my choice of degree course and the university.
