The Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences is seeking to fill a W2 professorship in the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science as soon as possible in the field of

Computer Networks and Distributed Systems
- Reference Number: EI-070 -

is to be filled on a full-time basis.

The position involves serving as a substitute for the above-mentioned professorship in teaching and research, with a particular focus on the following areas:

  • Computer Networks,
  • Distributed Systems,
  • Cybersecurity.

Teaching responsibilities must be carried out to a high standard of academic and pedagogical quality in lectures, seminars, exercises, lab sessions, and projects, as well as in continuing education programs. These responsibilities are to be developed both independently and in close collaboration with the faculties. The ability and willingness to participate in integrative, practice-oriented, and internship-related teaching units are required. Classes / courses must also be taught in English. The appointee is expected to teach classes / courses related to the field of appointment.

In addition to teaching responsibilities, the appointee must independently carry out research and development tasks in the field of appointment. A corresponding level of commitment is required. The appointee must actively contribute to the internationalization of the university and the further development of the discipline. Responsibilities in academic self-governance must be assumed. In addition, involvement in projects related to knowledge and technology transfer is expected.

Appointment Requirements

Requirements for appointment include a completed academic degree, demonstrated pedagogical aptitude in teaching or training, a special aptitude for scholarly work—typically evidenced by a doctoral degree or equivalent scholarly achievements— as well as outstanding achievements in the application or development of scientific knowledge and methods gained through, as a rule, five years of professional experience, at least three of which must have been gained outside the higher education sector.

The Act on Higher Education Institutions in the Free State of Saxony (Saxon Higher Education Act—SächsHSG) of May 31, 2023 (Sächs-GVBl., p. 329), as last amended by Article 2 of the Act of January 31, 2024 (Sächs-GVBl., p. 83).

The following knowledge and skills are required

  • a completed academic degree in computer science,
  • evidence of exceptional aptitude for in-depth, independent scholarly work (typically demonstrated by an above-average doctoral dissertation in a relevant field),
  • demonstrable relevance of the candidate’s professional career to the content and responsibilities of the professorship,
  • experience in applied research and knowledge transfer.

 

Teaching in the field of appointment must be ensured university-wide in degree programs with and without an original IT focus. Therefore, particular pedagogical and university-level teaching aptitude in relation to instructing students who are not majoring in computer science is of special interest. The practical relevance of the teaching must be consistently ensured.

Knowledge of an Eastern European language is welcome due to the university’s geographic location in the border region of the Germany/Czech Republic/Poland tri-border area.
