The Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences is seeking to fill a W2 professorship at the Faculty of Natural and Environmental Sciences in the field of

Multivariate Statistics / Mathematics
- reference number: NM-011 -

to be filled full-time.

The future incumbent will hold the above-mentioned appointment area, with the following main areas of focus:

  • Multivariate statistics, data mining and big data as an application in a scientific context,
  • Basic training in mathematics.

The teaching duties are to be implemented in lectures, seminars, exercises, internships and projects as well as in continuing education in German and English in a professional and didactically high-quality manner and to be developed both independently and in close cooperation with the faculties. The educational content must also be in accordance with the values and standards of the HSZG for responsible action towards fellow human beings, society and the environment.

If necessary, courses related to the area of appointment are to be taken on. The practical relevance of teaching activities must be ensured on an ongoing basis.

In addition to teaching duties, a corresponding commitment is required to carry out independent research and development tasks in the area of appointment. The candidate must actively contribute to the internationalization of the university and the further development of the subject area. Tasks in academic self-administration are to be assumed. In addition, active participation in projects in the field of knowledge and technology transfer is expected.

Appointment requirements

The prerequisites for appointment are a completed academic university degree, proven pedagogical aptitude in teaching or training, special aptitude for academic work, which is usually demonstrated by a doctorate or adequate academic achievements, as well as special achievements in the application or development of scientific knowledge and methods in a professional practice of usually five years, of which at least three years must have been spent outside the university sector. Knowledge of an Eastern European language is welcome due to the geographical location of the university in the border region of the border triangle Germany/Czech Republic/Poland.

Reference is made to the Law on Universities in the Free State of Saxony (Sächsisches Hochschulgesetz - SächsHSG) of May 31, 2023 (SächsGVBl. 2023 No. 12, p. 329).

The following knowledge and skills are required

  • completed university degree in mathematics, natural or environmental sciences or another university degree related to the above-mentioned field of appointment
  • proof of special aptitude for in-depth independent scientific work (generally to be provided by an above-average and relevant doctorate),
  • demonstrable links between the professional career and the content and tasks of the professorship,
  • Ability to develop the professional identity of the students, to impart relevant specialist knowledge and to identify with the special phenomena of the subject (pedagogical-didactic aptitude), whereby corresponding teaching experience must be demonstrated,
  • Experience in applied research and knowledge transfer,
  • Experience in the conception, establishment and accreditation of study programs as well as in the acquisition of third-party funding is advantageous.
