The position involves serving as a substitute for the above-mentioned professorship in teaching and research, with a particular focus on the following areas:

• Human-Computer Interaction
  • Physiological and psychological foundations of human information processing with regard to interaction with technical systems,
  • Interaction with speech recognition, audiovisual design, haptic interaction options, as well as interaction prototypes and their evaluation,
  • Software frameworks for implementing the human-machine interface,
  • Interaction design, UX design, and design guidelines such as Material Design for graphical design,
  • Programming the human-machine interface using various end devices and systems with multimodal interaction,
  • continuous monitoring and improvement of interaction,
  • Software solutions for specialized input/output devices, new interfaces, augmented reality/virtual reality, gesture recognition,
  • methods and applications in the field of the Internet of Things and their user-centered design.

• Context of Application
  • Design of and interaction with IT systems,
  • consideration of the limitations of audiovisual and haptic information acquisition for specific user groups in software development,
  • accessible interaction, user-centered design, implementation, and evaluation,
  • Software solutions in implants, wearables, assistive devices, and VR systems,
  • Software development and user-centered application of domain-specific robotic systems.

The professorship is intended to meet future requirements in the field of computer science, particularly in human-computer interaction with regard to software systems and application-oriented approaches.

Teaching responsibilities are to be carried out through lectures, seminars, exercises, lab sessions, and projects, as well as continuing education courses, in both German and English. The ability and willingness to participate in integrative, practice-oriented, and lab-based teaching units are required. If necessary, the incumbent may also be required to teach classes / courses related to the field of appointment.

In addition to teaching responsibilities, the appointee must independently carry out research and development tasks in the field of appointment. A corresponding level of commitment is required. The appointee must actively contribute to the internationalization of the university and the further development of the discipline. Responsibilities in academic self-governance must be assumed. In addition, involvement in projects related to knowledge and technology transfer is expected.

Appointment Requirements

Requirements for appointment include a completed academic degree, demonstrated pedagogical aptitude in teaching or training, a special aptitude for scholarly work—typically evidenced by the quality of a doctoral dissertation— as well as outstanding achievements in the application or development of scientific knowledge and methods during a period of professional practice—typically five years—of which at least three years must have been spent outside the higher education sector.

Pursuant to the Law on Higher Education Institutions in the Free State of Saxony (Saxon Higher Education Act—SächsHSG) of May 31, 2023 (SächsGVBl. p. 329), as last amended by Article 2 of the Act of January 31, 2024 (SächsGVBl. p. 83).

We expect you to have

• a completed academic degree in computer science or a discipline closely related to the field of appointment, such as design or psychology,
• evidence of exceptional aptitude for in-depth, independent academic work (typically demonstrated by an outstanding doctoral dissertation in a relevant field),
• demonstrable connections between your professional career and the content and responsibilities of the professorship,
• experience in applied research and knowledge transfer.
