In the 21st century, the age of globalization and digitalization, everyone has their own facts. What was once considered the "real thing" is increasingly being called into question. This development has implications for society and politics on both a small and large scale. What this means in concrete terms will be discussed in this 3-part course.

Part I: The truth does not exist
Whether Neil Armstrong landed on the moon or in Universal Studios no longer plays a role in reality. It is socially manifested as true that he left our planet to press his footprint - and with it the success of the American moon landing - into a whole new territory. We perceived this step as a great one for humanity and constructed everything around it as right and true. The eternal dispute between "right" and "wrong", between truth and lies, could come to an end if there is a growing understanding that it is we ourselves who ultimately construct reality from our perceptions. In any case, the only certain lie is the existence of one truth.

Part II: There is no such thing as evil
When Hannah Arendt observed the trial of Adolf Eichmann in 1961, her view of humanity must have taken a severe blow. What she later described as the "banality of evil" is, from a historical and geopolitical perspective, nothing other than the human-social characteristic of constructing realities and reinforcing them as "true" through action. Eichmann acted in accordance with the law, he says, reacting almost incomprehensibly to the accusations of brutal inhumanity. Not even the worst regime that humanity has ever experienced had acted out of destructive motives. The conviction was to act in the interests of the people. In terms of world politics, only a very small number of nations are convinced of the idea of liberal democracy. Perhaps there is more than one truth - certainly even a very wide spectrum between "good" and "evil".

Part III: (interpersonal) conflicts do not exist
It is the age of fighters, of everyday soldiers who know how to assert themselves and defend positions as if each one were vital. Sure, you can be convinced that the reality you live is the only one and accordingly lend the necessary emphasis to any advice on how to live your life. Or you can instead give new hype to an ancient principle: I know that I know nothing. Conflict between people always arises when people meet who know the truth and simply have to talk the other person out of their stupidity. But if you change your perspective and are humble enough to see yourself as the stupider one for a moment, you will hear and see things that complement your own knowledge, your own truth. And it is not uncommon to find the space to explain your own reality. The solution and the principle of a conflict-free, personal environment can be found in the balance between one world and the other.
