Beer from here - tradition and sustainability: Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences and the city of Zittau invite you to Environment Day on November 14, 2018 and present a special "university beer". Beer brewing has a long tradition in the towns and university region of Zittau and Görlitz. From a cultural perspective, brewing beer also has something to do with sustainability. Traditional knowledge and a brewing culture are cultivated, preserved and passed on across generations. Breweries are also an economic factor, employer and cultural promoter in our region and thus contribute to sustainable regional development. But not only that, the topics of water and energy use, sourcing of ingredients, cultivation of hops and barley, returnable bottles, transportation, export and the global market are also topics that contribute to the sustainability of beer, its production and marketing.
The initiators of the "Day of the Environment" would like to discuss this with representatives of regional breweries, Zittau citizens and university members on November 14, 2018, from 2:00 pm. The venue is the Zittau campus, Theodor-Körner-Allee 8, Haus Z IV - Peter-Dierich-Haus, lecture hall 0.01.Dazu, and all interested parties are cordially invited to a beer quiz with a raffle for a Zittau beer cellar tour (on 15.11., 17:00-18:30) and a small tasting of our regional beers as well as a university beer brewed especially for this occasion.
In keeping with good tradition, the 2018 Environment Day will be opened by the Rector of Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences, Prof. Dr. Friedrich Albrecht, and our Mayor of Zittau, Thomas Zenker. The day will end with a film on the topic of beer from 7:00 pm.
