A review of the visit to the 3rd Tourism Forum "Tourism in the border region of the Giant Mountains, Jizera Mountains and Lausitz"
On Friday, October 8, the students of the Master's degree program in International Tourism Management traveled to a conference in Szklarska Poreba, Poland. After an early departure from Görlitz, the group arrived at the modern conference hotel Platinum Mountain Hotel in the Giant Mountains. The aim of the conference was to network tourism stakeholders in the Polish region of Lower Silesia, the Czech region of Liberec and Lausitz. Accordingly, the program began with a panel discussion on the current state of tourism in the three countries. Both the challenges posed by the ongoing coronavirus pandemic and the changing wishes of guests were discussed. For example, all participants emphasized the importance of expanding the cycling infrastructure in the region. Another highlight was the presentation of the ambitious bid to host the 2030 Winter Olympics, which the initiators hope will take place at existing sports venues in the Krkonoše and Jizera Mountains and in Altenberg.
After further exciting presentations, the conference ended in the afternoon. All participants returned to Görlitz with a variety of impressions of the tourism projects, challenges and destinations in the three-country region.
