University members did very well in the pedometer challenge as part of the Health and Environment Days.
It was that time again. From 29.05. to 02.06., the Health and Environment Days (GUt) were organized for the third time by the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences together with the city of Zittau. In addition to offers such as back screening, smoothie bikes, the second city bike tour and vegan soap making, the first rematch of the pedometer challenge took place. Seven teams of two university employees competed against teams from the city administration to achieve the most steps within 5 days.
In the first challenge in 2016, the teams from the city administration narrowly won with a total of 1,988,848 steps after 7 days and won the challenge cup with 56,000 more steps. Last year, the city administration also beat the university employees in the individual and team rankings and also came first in these categories.
This year, the participants of the pedometer challenge were once again highly motivated and ran, ran, ran... At the premiere of this year's GUt events, the first university-city-company-run on the HSZG campus, the participants of the pedometer challenge also had the opportunity to let the speedometer of their pedometer shoot up.
Constellations from individual starters to teams of four were permitted and an eight-kilometer distance was run. As a participant in the pedometer challenge, Rüdiger Cervinka from the HSZG and his team colleague took first place in the team competition.
Atthis year's pedometer challenge , the rankings in the individual categories are as follows: The first three places in the individual ranking were taken exclusively by university employees. First place in the individual ranking was taken by Professor Jörg Schulze (223,927 steps). Second and third place went to Mr. Stefan Renger and Susan Fiedler with 194,365 and 182,271 steps respectively.
In the team ranking, first and third place were also taken by the HSZG and second place by the Zittau city administration. With a total of 418,292 steps, Stefan Renger and Professor Jörg Schulze took first place. Second place went to Stefan Meyer and Heidi Eckart with a total of 304,391 steps. Third place in the team ranking went to Susan Fiedler and Karen Kobelt from the Faculty of Natural and Environmental Sciences with a total of 329,200 steps.
Only one thing remained the same as last year! The overall victory in the pedometer challenge went once again to the Zittau city administration with a clear lead of 202,932 steps. This means that the challenge cup remains with the city administration and has the entry: 1,680,727 steps in 5 days.
The team organizing the Health and Environment Days was delighted to see how ambitiously the competitors walked and would like to thank them for their participation. We are already looking forward to next year's pedometer challenge.
