Last week, colleagues from the Weißwasser municipal library used their team-building measure to take a trip to Görlitz. They wanted to get to know the University Library, because the tasks and work of a city library are sometimes very different from those of an academic library. But despite this - or perhaps because of it - getting to know the library also provides inspiration and ideas for their own work.
The colleagues from Weißwasser were enthusiastic about the services that our University Library offers its users or can (better) offer them, especially electronic media. The available technology was also admired without envy and the extensive services were found to be very good. This is because public libraries, which are dependent on local authority funding, usually only have a very limited budget available and have to provide as good a service as possible within this framework.
Many questions were asked and it was a very pleasant and stimulating exchange of experiences for both sides.
