a lecture by

An important focus of the GfdS's work is advising institutions, companies, ministries and also private individuals who approach us with questions and requests for linguistic information - around 5,000 last year. The spectrum ranges from general or critical observations on current language developments to questions on spelling and grammar, expression and style, complex text correction or expert opinions on the meaning and admissibility of first names from all over the world.

The speaker has been a research assistant at the GfdS since 1999 and has been head of language advice for over a year; he knows what interests those seeking advice at home and abroad. After a brief introduction to the concept of standards, there will be an overview of language queries, illustrated by a number of examples. Afterwards, individual cases will be discussed with the guests in order to offer language advice on the spot, so to speak, and thus show what the point of language criticism is.

The lecture is a joint event of the Gesellschaft für deutsche Sprache and the Hochschule Zittau/Görlitz.
