The exhibition "The Most Beautiful German Books 2018" can be seen in the University Library in Zittau until 24.05.2019.
From a total of 729 submitted titles, two expert juries selected the 25 "most beautiful German books" in the categories "General literature", "Reference books, academic books, non-fiction, textbooks and school books", "Guidebooks", "Art books, photo books, exhibition catalogs" and "Children's books, books for young people". The Stiftung Buchkunst competition honors books that are exemplary in design, conception and workmanship and that show important trends and movements in German book production.
The "Preis der Stiftung Buchkunst" was awarded to the children's book "Schwimmt Brot in Milch?" by Katrin Stangel (ALADIN Verlag, Hamburg). The winning book was illustrated by the author with 30 original flat-print graphics. Using four real spot colors - blue-spotted blue, sweet red, egg yellow and mint green - the overprint conjures up a cheerful color palette. And the paper white acts as a fifth color, so to speak. The brushstrokes leave traces on the colored areas and support the already lively play of colors that extends to the edge of the paper.
