Professor Matthias Theodor Vogt visits Tbilisi

The Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences has maintained contacts with Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University (TSU) since 2011. 2017 marks the bicentenary of the arrival of German settlers, and 2018 marks the centenary of the founding of the first Georgian university, today's TSU.

Georgia is a member of the Council of Europe and, together with neighboring Armenia, the oldest Christian state in Europe. The vibrant metropolis of Tbilisi is located on the old Silk Road at the crossroads of Persian, Greek, Roman, Ottoman and Russian influences. Georgia is the only post-Soviet state to have succeeded in establishing an almost corruption-free police force.


The Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences has maintained contacts with Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University (TSU) since 2011. 2017 marks the bicentenary of the arrival of German settlers, and 2018 marks the centenary of the founding of the first Georgian university, today's TSU. Many Georgian academics have studied or completed their doctorates in Germany. Students and lecturers from the Faculty of Management and Cultural Studies at Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences have repeatedly visited the Faculty of Economics at TSU in recent years, including a major study trip for WK students in 2014. Student Sandra Scheel received broad support for her final thesis on "Tbilisi as European Capital of Culture". Matthias Theodor Vogt, Professor of Cultural Policy at the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences, supervises together with the Governing Mayor of Tbilisi. Prof. Dr. Davit Narmania, a doctoral thesis on cultural management by cand. rer. pol. Asmati Gulardova at the Faculty of Economics. The next study trip to Tbilisi is planned for September 2017.


At the Faculty's annual conference, Prof. Vogt gave a lecture entitled "Since when does globalization last?" At New Vision University Tbilisi, he spoke on "How to Proceed in the Armenian Question?" and at the Saakashvili Presidential Library on "Integration of Migrants and Regional Contradictions".


The focus of the visit was on talks on German-Georgian cooperation in the field of interculturality with the Rector of TSU, Prof. Dr. paed. George Sharvashidze, the Rector of New Vision University Tbilisi, Prof. Dr. iur. David Kereselidze, and the Rector of Ilia State University. Prof. Dr. phil. Giga Zedania.
