The "Upper Lusatia Emergency Network" was founded on September 18, 2013 as part of the 2013 Saxon Workshop Day for Conservation, which took place this year at the Upper Lusatian Library of Science in Görlitz.
The Upper Lusatia Emergency Network comprises 13 libraries, museums and archives that will work together to protect cultural assets in the event of an accident or emergency. The archives, libraries and museums are run by different organizations: institutions of the Free State of Saxony, the cities of Zittau and Görlitz, the Kultur- und Weiterbildungsgesellschaft (Cultural and Further Education Society) as well as the Senckenberg Museum of Natural History Görlitz, the Sorbian Central Library Bautzen and the Silesian Museum Görlitz. The initiative to establish an "Oberlausitz Emergency Network" came from the Director of the University Library at Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences and draws on the experience of existing networks in Saxony. Specialist advice and support is provided by the State Office for Collection Preservation of the Saxon State Library/State and University Library Dresden.
