New publication: Spatially sensitive research in migration studies

New contribution from the TRAWOS project Elitenmonitor

How can migration research be made spatially sensitive? Jan Schaller, research assistant in the Elitenmonitor project and member of the TRAWOS Institute, addresses this question together with other authors in a recent article on sozialraum.de. Under the title „Raumsensibel forschen in der Migrationsforschung“ (Spatially sensitive research in migration studies) the team of authors shows why space—understood as a social, political and everyday category—is more than just the backdrop to life stories. Rather, spaces such as neighborhoods or regions directly influence the experiences, participation and sense of belonging of migrants. The article combines theoretical considerations with methodological approaches and provides important impetus for differentiated, critically reflective migration research.
