Contributed significantly to the positive development!

Hans-Ullrich Kirbach retired from active service on 30.09.2016. Prof. Delakowitz reports on his work.

Dipl.-Ing. Hans-Ullrich Kirbach studied from 1971 to 1975 at the Zittau University of Engineering in the Power Plant and Energy Conversion section, specializing in power plant technology. From March 1975 to May 1986, he worked as a research assistant. From June 1986, he held the position of development engineer for teaching and research at the Zittau University of Engineering in the Department of Mathematics/Natural Sciences, Physics Division (Head: Prof. Schuhmann) and was appointed research assistant to the chair of Prof. Bosholm from July 1991. From October 1992, he was a member of staff for the scientific and technical organization in the Department of Mathematics/Natural Sciences and was the first Faculty Manager of the then Dean Prof. Große.

As a successful graduate of the Power Plants and Energy Conversion course at the Zittau University of Engineering, Mr. Kirbach took on seminars and internships as part of the basic physics training for engineering courses at the time, as well as teaching independently in the preliminary course for subject-linked university entrance qualification and research tasks.

His tireless commitment to teaching, which was highly appreciated by the students, extended to coordinating the practical work of all colleagues in the physics department, maintaining selected experiments, supervising students in the physics practical course and acting as observer during oral examinations. His personal commitment was exemplary and thus made a decisive contribution to the high quality of basic physics education in engineering and science courses at the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences.

In addition to the aforementioned tasks in basic physics education, Mr. Kirbach was an indispensable pillar of the Faculty of Natural and Environmental Sciences until his retirement as Faculty Manager. His detailed knowledge and extensive experience in all faculty matters as well as his skill in acquiring resources and in dealing with the administration and management of the university contributed significantly to the success of the courses offered in the faculty. In particular, the introduction of the successful Biotechnology and Ecology and Environmental Protection degree programs would not have gone so smoothly without his involvement. Mr. Kirbach was a member of the respective committees in numerous appointment procedures and thus also made a contribution to the personnel policy of the faculty and the university. In addition, Mr. Kirbach was distinguished by his loyalty to the Deans of the Faculty, with whom he always worked in a solution-oriented manner and not just administratively. His expertise was indispensable, for example in construction and modernization measures within the faculty.

Mr. Kirbach was a member of the University Senate for over a decade and in this role made a significant contribution to its positive development. Dipl.-Ing. Hans-Ullrich Kirbach has been a member of the University Council since February 2015 and is thus involved in the further development of our university even after retiring from active service.
