Laboratory Engineer Microbiology (m/f/d)
- Reference: 78-2024 N-LI -

to be filled on a permanent basis.

The laboratory engineer is primarily responsible for the microbiology laboratory as part of the biotechnology laboratories. The internships to be carried out are a key component on the path to professional qualification for graduates of our Molecular Biotechnology, Environmental Sciences and Pharmaceutical Biotechnology degree programs.

The work essentially involves the following tasks:

  • Preparation, set-up, execution and follow-up of experiments including design and implementation of new practical experiments in microbiology, biotechnology and related fields,
  • Maintenance of the microbiological strain collection,
  • Laboratory organization including technical and organizational support of laboratory equipment and inventory,
  • Support of teaching activities,
  • Supervision of student assistants and students in internships and student projects and theses,
  • Support in the realization of research and development projects,
  • active participation in public relations activities (e.g. university information day, student internships).

The following knowledge and skills are required

  • Completed university degree (in the field of biotechnology, biology, biochemistry),
  • in-depth knowledge and professional experience in the fields of microbiology and related areas, e.g. molecular biology and biochemistry,
  • experience in the cultivation and characterization of bacteria and fungi and in molecular genetic working methods (PCR, electrophoresis, blotting techniques, heterologous gene expression) and protein purification (FPLC),
  • sound and practical knowledge of English for carrying out laboratory practicals in English.

In addition, the following are desirable

  • Professional experience in the field of student education and experience/knowledge of university teaching procedures,
  • Professional experience in the design and development of laboratory equipment,
  • knowledge of environmental microbiology and bioprocess engineering,
  • further foreign language skills.
