In April 2016, Prof. Dr. Steffi Höse and Prof. Dr. Mario Straßberger submitted a joint application to the Saxon Ministry of Science and the Arts (SMWK) via the HSZG Chancellor. This approved a grant for six computer workstations for use in teaching and research. On November 30, 2016, the new "Risk Analysis Laboratory" was used in teaching for the first time with two introductory courses in the statistics software IBM SPSS Statistics.
In future, this laboratory will enable students on all courses in the Faculty of Business Administration and Engineering Management to analyze and measure economic risks with the help of computers and ultimately manage them by deriving recommendations for action. Laboratory work in small groups will become an integral part of classes / courses in statistics and operations research, finance, risk controlling and banking. The main software used will be Microsoft Excel, IBM SPSS Statistics and the statistics software R. The Risk Analysis Laboratory will make it possible to assign more thesis topics based on empirical studies and empirical research methods in the future. In particular, it also supports opportunities for cooperation with small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) from the region and thus the transfer of knowledge to the region.
As the university lecturers mentioned are currently each working on a research project on risk measurement and analysis funded by the SMWK, the Risk Analysis Laboratory will in future form a basis for application-oriented research in the above-mentioned subject areas in addition to teaching.
