Dear visitor
Welcome to this small exhibition of watercolors from Upper Lusatia, especially Oderwitz and the surrounding area. I am delighted to have been given the opportunity to exhibit here in the university library.
My name is Ralf Ulbrich. I was born in Oderwitz and still live in the town. I am 52 years old, married and have two daughters. I have been working here at the university for 25 years, but I have nothing to do with painting.
Originally, it was probably my grandfather who got me into painting or at least passed on or awakened my interest. For me, painting is relaxation and a nice hobby. It's nice when something presentable comes out of it. After having tried my hand at oil and acrylic painting in the years around the turn of the millennium, I now think I have more fun with watercolor painting.
Playing with water and paint, the uncertainty of the color flow and the often completely different appearance after drying are exciting moments. Painting from light to dark and the many possibilities of the watercolor technique, the effect of rich colors vs. empty areas and the constant learning of cause and effect are fun for me.
Every painter, even every amateur painter, wants to find their own style. I was inspired by the Dresden art professor Adolf Böhlich. He is a master of the wet-on-wet technique. I try to create the backgrounds of many of my paintings with this seemingly playful lightness, but without copying him. The finer application of the foreground is intended to make the motif definable.
This exhibition shows works from the last two years. I would be delighted to receive reactions to the pictures. If you would like to purchase one of the pictures, the price is €40, plus €17 for the frame and passe-partout
Thank you for your interest
