As part of the Objective 3/Cíl 3 program for the promotion of cross-border cooperation 2007 - 2013 between the Free State of Saxony and the Czech Republic, the University Library received information in the 4th quarter of 2013 that the project "Saxon-Czech Library Network - Information without Borders" can start.

The planned project is intended to support interlibrary loans and strengthen the position of libraries in the border region through the acquisition of e-media and databases. Workshops on library management in the digital age and "taster visits" will increase the intercultural and professional skills of library staff. Discussing the feasibility of a joint union catalog with a bilingual user interface would also serve as a model for other border regions. Students at the respective university locations are informed about the media financed by the project in "library days". Overall, the project contributes to cross-border cooperation in research and teaching.

Chemnitz University Library is the lead partner. The Plzeň University Library, the Liberec Academic Library and the University Library of our university are working together on this project. The exchange of information and experience between academic and public libraries will be further advanced by incorporating the expertise from the predecessor project of the Chemnitz and Plzeň University Libraries. The financial framework of the overall project is just under EUR 400,000, with our university contributing over EUR 100,000.

The first working meeting took place in Chemnitz on December 12, 2013, where the project team was introduced and fundamental questions of project management, coordination of public relations work and preparations for the launch event in January 2014 were discussed.
