Dr. von Schäwen worked as a research assistant at the Faculty of Natural and Environmental Sciences at our Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences for 36 years.
After studying physics at TU Dresden, he worked as a research assistant in the physics department at the university in Zittau from 1980 to 2014. He demonstrated his scientific aptitude in the field of physics in 1989 with a doctorate (Dr. rer. nat.) at the Technical University of Zittau.
As head of the physics practical course at the Faculty of Natural and Environmental Sciences,
his main focus was on technical and educational work with students. He always enjoyed guiding inquisitive and eager-to-learn young people through physics experiments. He always made the seminars and practicals understandable and entertaining for the students. For many years,
Dr. von Schäwen took part in the German Physical Society's (DPG) internship supervisors' conference to discuss physics education with experts. For many years, he was also a committed organizer of introductory physics courses at the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences.
As part of his research activities at the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences, Dr. von Schäwen was involved in the development of a patent for a magnetic resonance sensor in 2001.
After his retirement in 2014, Dr. von Schäwen continued to teach classes / courses at the HSZG and other partner universities.
