Here today, there tomorrow - Alumni of the Business and Languages degree program report

Since 1992, our university has been opening the doors to the future for hundreds of young people. How are our graduates doing today? How do they rate their studies years later?

Today we would like to present two stories from alumni of the Business and Languages degree program.

The story #1

Our first interviewee is Anastasiia Muratova. She comes from Irkutsk, Russia. Her journey began in October 2014.

"The course was very extensive. A combination of business subjects and linguistics made it exciting and varied. On the whole, I am satisfied with my studies. We had very competent and courteous professors and small groups where we developed a close relationship. There were students in our group who were more interested in languages and also those who would have liked more business modules. That's why I wished I had been given a wider choice of modules that would have strengthened my business skills. The language lovers wanted the opposite. However, I am currently working in a position where many business graduates also work and I don't feel at a disadvantage in any way. The course has given me everything I need."

Anastasiia has stayed in the Görlitz area. She now works as a product marketing manager.

Her message to all prospective students, especially those from abroad, is

"Have the courage, even if it seems very difficult at first. With hard work and good professors, anything is possible. There are many career opportunities after graduation."

The story #2

Our second interview partner is Andrzej Dmytruk. Andrzej comes from Poland. He finished his studies in 2017.

"I started my studies in 2012, to be more precise with the bridge semester in Zittau. The Business and Languages course lasted 8 semesters. It was a perfect mix of business subjects and translation (EN DE PL). This course was very innovative at the time and suitable for both German and international prospective students."

He stayed in Germany and is currently working as an IT consultant and translator.

"I can recommend studying at the HSZG with full responsibility. Direct contact with professors, a variety of subjects and a cozy atmosphere - it simply doesn't get any better than this!"

These are the stories of our alumni. We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your participation.

What about our alumni meetings?

Prof. Dr. phil. PhDr. Annette Muschner, the alumni representative of our field of study, tells us the following:

"We have had an active ALUMNI activity for around 15 years. Every year (except for 2020) we have met with our graduates at the end of April in Zittau and/or Görlitz. At the conference to mark the twentieth anniversary of our degree course in April 2017 (Translating and Interpreting between Tradition and Innovation) with almost 60 participants from Poland, the Czech Republic and Germany, our graduates were among those who reported on their practical experiences in their own conference presentations. We regularly invited our graduates to give lectures here at the university."

To all other graduates, we would like to say that the university is happy to support you in planning and organizing matriculation meetings. Stay in touch with us - your experiences help us to further develop the university. Contact the alumni representative of your faculty and meet up with your former fellow students and lecturers.
