Graphic novels, comics, manga and co.

Our visually stunning book recommendations

Comics for literature enthusiasts? Of course they are!

Graphic novels are illustrated novels that are often not only a visual delight, but also make the reception of novels and even specialist books a special experience. While the original text is reduced to the essentials, pictures convey moods and background information. Does this also work with classic literature? Find out!

- e.g. with Crime and Punishment by Dostoyevsky, illustrated by Bastien Loukia

- Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini, illustrated by Celoni and Andolfo

- Alois Nebel by Jaroslav Rudiš, illustrated by Jaromir 99

- The Returnees: when the war in the head does not end by Olivier Morel, illustrated by Maël (Görlitz branch library)

- or Bram Stoker's Dracula, illustrated in a visually stunning way by Georges Bess

For horror fans, we also have the new edition of the classic comic The Crow by James O'Barr on our shelves.

Political portraits are shown in the graphic novels Rosa: the graphic novel about Rosa Luxemburg and Engels: Entrepreneur & Revolutionary.

A special recommendation is the comic Irmina by Barbara Yelin, which is based on the biography of her own grandmother and tells a story about being a follower and looking the other way during National Socialism.

There are also non-fiction books in comic format, such as Economix: how our economy works (or doesn't) - an introduction to economic history by Michael Goodwin, illustrated by Dan E. Burr, or the science comics by Steve Haines: Angst ist ziemlich strange, Schmerz ist ziemlich strange and Trauma ist ziemlich strange (Zweigbibliothek Görlitz).

For manga and organization fans, we can also recommend The KonMari Method by Marie Kondo as a manga.

"I tell stories with pictures. My medium is the comic; it holds countless possibilities for the multi-layered interweaving of drawing, dialog, narrative text and the magical rhythm of the panels. My pencil is the tool and the resulting sketch is the map to discover questions, explore gaps and track down stories."
