Nina Wrzesińska comes from Poland and explains why she is studying International Business Communication in Görlitz of all places.
Why are you studying International Business Communication?
The world in the 21st century is very globalized and interconnected. You can have contact with people from different countries via the Internet, take part in international projects and travel almost everywhere. Many companies today operate internationally and have branches in different cultural and language areas. My aim is to work in international companies in the future, where you can put your language and communication skills into practice. As I was already in an international and bilingual class at secondary school, I was able to learn a bit about how to operate in an international environment through projects such as "Berlin-Warsaw Express".
What do you find special about your degree course and Görlitz?
I chose this degree course because it covers a very broad range of subjects and gives me the opportunity to develop my interests. You can also partially design your studies yourself by choosing a specialization and different compulsory elective modules over the course of seven semesters. The internship semester allows you to gain experience in companies and put your previous knowledge to practical use. The "International Business Communication" degree program offers me a foundation in many areas that I may be able to develop further later in the Master's program (e.g. international marketing, international management, etc.).
The location of Görlitz on the border between Germany and Poland and not far from the Czech Republic is ideal, so it is very good to observe - and above all experience - the constant linguistic, cultural and social exchanges between the three countries.
The proximity to the two neighboring countries also makes it easier to find a company for the internship and offers a wide range of other opportunities.
What do you like most about your surroundings?
Görlitz is a very beautiful and historic city, it's a really good place to live. For many years, it has been famous for film productions in the city, which is why it is often called "Görliwood". Films such as "Grand Budapest Hotel", "Inglourious Basterds" and "The Book Thief" were filmed here in whole or in part. There is an amazing amount of culture to discover and experience here! There are museums, cinemas and a wonderful theater. It's also a good place to enjoy student life - whether in the student club "Maus" or partying at Lake Berzdorf, which is easily accessible by bike.
