Have you gardened today? - Find the best tips for you and your garden here.
Especially in the current situation, having your own garden is the perfect retreat. You're cooped up at home, can't meet up with friends and the nice weather is just too tempting to stay at home all day.
If you're in the mood and need a short break from gardening, you're welcome to take part in my survey about the ice rink.
Right now, the demand for a garden is very high. If you have one, you're very lucky. My flatmate and her boyfriend have owned an allotment garden in the heart of Dresden Neustadt for 3 years. Over the last few weeks, it has become my second home. An oasis of peace. There's no coronavirus for me here, and at the moment it's the only opportunity I have to leave the apartment, go somewhere else and spend a few hours there. I'm grateful for any work that comes my way and, strangely enough, I even enjoy weeding. My only thought is to get out and be productive again. Do something useful and finally bring a bit of variety back into the day. Growing our own vegetables...carrots, onions, tomatoes, cucumbers, that sounds great. So roll up your sleeves and let's get started!
How practical! Kitchen waste and eggshells end up on a compost heap, as do leaves and whatever else is left over from gardening. It is not just a pile of garbage, but a way of processing raw materials in a natural way. Compost is also a natural fertilizer for plants. The first step is to reprocess our compost, as we need new soil for the beds. We use a sieve to sort out coarse particles and end up with a new pile of humus.
We can use the fresh compost to create new beds. As we want to grow a few things this year, we need more space. We are planning 2 beds just for tomatoes. They are one of my favorite vegetables. Important! The tomato plants can only be planted outdoors after the Ice Saints in mid-May. Before that would be too early and there is a high probability that the plants will freeze. For all hobby gardeners: Tomatoes can be started at the beginning of March. Empty egg cartons and a sunny spot by the window are particularly good for getting a head start on sowing in the open ground. This means we have to be patient a little longer before the seedlings are allowed outdoors...
Carrots are the classic vegetable and can be found on almost every bed, including ours soon. They are relatively easy to grow and can be sown as early as the end of March. A nice spot has been found for them, not too shady, but rather plenty of sun. First of all, you should think about how much you want to sow and it's best to mark out the area. Then try to create as straight a row as possible. The handle of a hoe, for example, is suitable for this. Make sure that the row is as straight as possible. Carrots love a sowing depth of 1-2.5 cm and like to keep a distance of 3-5 cm to their neighbors.
Once the carrots have found their permanent place, the seeds are covered with soil and lightly pressed down. The area must then be watered regularly until germination, especially during dry periods.
A day like this can be quite exhausting. But after a successful day's work, you can treat yourself to an after-work drink from time to time.

I would be very grateful if you had 2-3 minutes and could support me. Thank you very much!
