Research Associate (m/f/d) - Keyword: PT Digital Twin -

Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences, Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science; Project "PT Digital" | Application deadline 14.09.2023

At the University of Applied Sciences Zittau/Görlitz, Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science', within the framework of the project "PT Digital" funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), a position (40 hours/week) is available at the earliest possible date as a

Research Associate (m/f/d) - Keyword: PT Digital Twin -

to be filled for a limited period until 31.10.2025. As part of the project, there is the possibility of a cooperative doctorate.

As nodes in the transmission and distribution grids, power transformers play a key role in ensuring a high quality of energy supply. Taking into account the increasing importance and utilization of the electrical energy grids with regard to the different regenerative feed-in possibilities and load flows, the reliability and quality of the respective equipment must be identified and guaranteed throughout the entire life cycle. In this project, a generic damage and ageing model (digital twin) is to be developed, taking into account the interaction of electrical, thermal, mechanical and chemical stresses. The added value for companies and society is, on the one hand, a more resource-efficient energy conversion and use of operating resources and, on the other hand, securing the energy supply and distribution against the background of the energy transition, especially in the electrical distribution grids.

The job holder will be responsible for the following tasks in particular:

  • Development of a generic ageing model and dynamic stress models of power transformers - active part, bushings, other equipment,
  • Integration of measurement, condition and stress data with 5G,
  • Conception of data analysis with 5G data connection in a test facility for electrical and thermal investigations on insulation arrangements,
  • Adaptation of the data structures to the final physical thermal-electrical model and testing of the model,
  • Validation and verification under consideration of historical field data and from measurement data during operation,
  • Coordination and organization of collaboration with the cooperation partner and
  • Writing and presenting project reports, scientific contributions for publications, conferences and meetings and their presentation and discussion and participation in scientific discourse with industrial partners and experts from other research institutions (colleges, universities, research centers).

The following knowledge and skills are required

  • Very good university degree (Dipl.-Ing., Dipl.-Ing. (FH)) in the field of electrical engineering,
  • In-depth specialist knowledge and relevant experience in the field of high-voltage technology,
  • experience in the construction of test setups and their assembly,
  • High degree of self-organization and sense of responsibility,
  • Experience in project management,
  • Experience in the use of MS Office, Matlab, Python,
  • Written and spoken German and/or English (B2) and
  • confident appearance and communication skills.

In addition, the following are desirable

  • Research experience,
  • Experience in the field of conceptual design, construction of test rigs and independent execution of experiments,
  • Experience in writing technical test and experimental reports as well as scientific texts.

We expect from you

  • a high level of interest in scientific tasks
  • a reliable, committed, loyal, team-oriented and independent way of working and
  • a willingness and interest to develop professionally and personally.
