As part of the "EdgeVision" project funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science' at the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences (HSZG) is seeking to fill a position (40 hours/week) as a

 

Research Associate (m/f/d)

- Keyword: EdgeVision AI-

 

to be filled for a limited period until 31.05.2026.

In combination with energy-efficient hardware modules, embedded and edge AI solutions offer a wide range of possibilities for the development of intelligent field devices and cyber-physical systems as well as in the field of wearables and xR technologies.

The aim of the project is to research AI methodology technologies, identify innovative application possibilities and test them in practical test samples in the areas of embedded and edge AI. The technical/scientific content consists of the research and development of necessary AI methods and algorithms in order to realize identified use cases and application requirements of the project partners with the Edge-AI SoCs to be developed. The planned energy efficiency of the AI methods developed should make a significant contribution to the technical realization of the investigation patterns in the form of wearables or intelligent field devices in process and production engineering. The job holder (m/f/d) will work on the following tasks in particular:

 

  • Investigations into existing AI frameworks,
  • Development of requirements in cooperation with the project partners,
  • Development and research of new AI methods for edge AI applications or adaptation of existing AI methods,
  • Provision of the researched and implemented AI set for the project partners,
  • Researching and implementing these methods on SoC,
  • Researching the possibilities of using integrated hardware AI accelerators to combine performance and energy efficiency in the area of edge AI,
  • Design of functional models and sample applications (AR/VR devices, intelligent field devices),
  • Validation and verification of the developed AI models and methods with regard to the developed requirements
  • Coordination of collaboration with project partners, participation in scientific exchange and discourse with industry and research partners
  • Preparation and presentation of project reports, scientific contributions for publications and conferences.

 

The following knowledge and skills are required

 

  • Very good, preferably scientific university degree in the fields of Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or Mechatronics,
  • In-depth specialist knowledge and relevant experience in the field of neural networks, machine learning, AI methods, embedded systems,
  • Experience in software development in C/C++ and common software development tools,
  • Experience in designing and building functional models,
  • Experience in project management,
  • Experience in the use of Matlab/Simulink, embedded development environments and MS Office/Latex,
  • German and/or English spoken and written (B2), project language German,
  • confident appearance and communication skills.

 

In addition, the following are desirable

 

  • experience
    • in research,
    • with TensorFlow, TinyAI and/or Embedded AI,
    • in the field of hardware-software co-design,
    • in the areas of AR/VR, Edge AI and intelligent field devices,
    • in writing technical test and experimental reports as well as scientific texts.

Further information

The remuneration for tariff employees is up to EG 13 TV-L if the professional requirements are met. The 1st place of work is Zittau. A probationary period will be agreed.
