With the Working Paper GAT-WP 01/2025, the research institute "GAT - Health, Ageing, Work, Technology" at Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences responds to inquiries from the Bundesverband pflegender An- und Zugehöriger wir pflegen e.V. on the economic contribution of informal care services provided by caregiving relatives. In this article, the GAT team of authors attempts to close this gap in the care statistics and provide a rigorous scientific estimate of the total costs of informal care. Even with a conservative estimate, the final result is a total of over 200 billion euros per year.
