A general meeting of the Hochschulförderverein took place on December 11, 2014. The aim was to give an account of the current year. In addition, an election period for the Executive Board came to an end.
Expenditure of € 14,500 was planned for 2014. Around € 4,800 was available for the association's prizes, which were awarded to graduates for outstanding academic achievements during the 2014 matriculation ceremony. The association fulfills its statutory tasks with the help of its members' contributions and donations. Special thanks are due to the donating legal members Vattenfall and Sparkasse Oberlausitz-Niederschlesien. The Management Board would also like to thank all members for their ongoing commitment. Special thanks go to Ms Trillenberg, who not only provides organizational support to the Board and works with it, but also collects donations for the Friends' Association by supporting seminar group meetings.
The Friends supported numerous projects in 2014, such as student excursions, the event to celebrate the naming of House Z IV, the "Kinder Academy", the exmatriculation ceremony, the organization of scientific events, the trinational network "Neisse University", the 7th Görlitz Curative Education Days, the 24th Zittau Energy Seminar, the opening of the Science Year 2014/15 and the SoCS 2014 Symposium on Computational Sustainability. This year, the university's sponsorship association once again provided a Germany Scholarship. The scholarship was awarded from the 2014/2015 winter semester.
Following the Chairman's report, a new Board of Directors was elected. The old and new Chairman is Prof. Dipl.-Ing. Reinhardt Hassa, Honorary Professor at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering. Oliver Bödeker, Head of Economics at Siemens Görlitz, was re-elected as First Deputy Chairman, and Prof. Dr.-Ing. habil. F. J. Schmidt(Faculty of Mechanical Engineering). Mr. Tobias Wendt from the SPK Oberlausitz-Niederschlesien will take over the position of Treasurer in the proven manner, and Ms. M.A. Antje Pfitzner, Head of Public Relations at the university, was elected as an assessor.
Dr.-Ing. Rosemarie Konschak said goodbye to the Board, as she took her well-deserved retirement last year. Prof. Hassa thanked her for her constructive and successful collaboration over the past few years. Dr. Konschak provided many new impulses during her time in office. For example, she was committed to professionalizing the external image of the Friends' Association, which resulted in a new homepage, and was instrumental in promoting the Friends' Association's commitment to "Art in the University Library". She was also able to provide valuable advice on the development of a new teaching award thanks to her wealth of experience.
The new Board member Antje Pfitzner would like to make greater use of the synergy potential between alumni work and the Friends' Association and actively contribute to recruiting new members: "The important and good work of the Friends' Association, but also the people behind this commitment, can become even more visible. In this way, we will be able to inspire more friends of Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences to become active members," announces the 36-year-old native of Upper Lusatia and hopes that she will be able to build on the successful work of her predecessor, Dr. Konschak.
