On September 4, 2013, the Executive Board decided to make €300 available for the purchase of two watercolors. The paintings by artist Helga Pilz had been exhibited in the University Library and had since adorned the white wall of the special reading room 2.1.09. Dr. Konschak had asked the Board to examine whether these watercolors could be purchased for the library. The Board is delighted that the Friends have been able to contribute to the design of the library as a space accessible to the public for the second time in this way.
The ceremonial handover to the university took place on November 27 by the Second Deputy Chairman, Prof. Dr.-Ing. habil. F.J. Schmidt to the Chancellor, Dipl. jur. Karin Hollstein, in the presence of the artist and her husband as well as Dr. Konschak and the current Managing Director of the association, Christian Müller. Two weeks earlier, on November 6, Christian Müller, as outgoing Chairman, had presented the corresponding award to Magnifizenz Prof. Dr. phil. Friedrich Albrecht as outgoing chairman.
Professor Schmidt paid tribute to the work of the artist Helga Pilz in connection with the Oberlausitzer Kunstverein, which was able to look back on 150 years of existence in 2005 and has developed a remarkable charisma in the region through its members over this long period. Ms. Pilz worked as a textile designer at LAUTEX and its successor companies until 2005. Her refreshing watercolor technique is part of a long tradition of important artists and delights the viewer in a very immediate way.
