The use of licensed electronic media (e-books, e-journals, databases) from the University Library on the move, from the internship company or from home has increased again due to the corona crisis.

Employees and students of the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences are entitled to access.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of the 3 access options?


EZproxy is primarily intended for the use of mobile devices (cell phone, tablet). Nothing needs to be installed. A few applications (e-books, e-journals, databases) are not available via EZproxy.


Shibboleth does not need to be installed either. Authentication is carried out using the university login. However, there are far fewer applications that allow Shibboleth. Both access options are good to use if you cannot install anything on your computer during your internship.


VPN requires the one-time installation of a client program. After authentication using university logins, all available applications are open. VPN is particularly recommended for computers at home or laptops.


Please note: As an authenticated VPN user, the licensed electronic media listed in the University Library catalog are also accessible.


External users (walk-in users) do not have a university login and can therefore only use licensed electronic media after logging in from computers on the University Library premises.
