Insight into modern care: specialists as guests in the Ambient Assisted Living laboratory

On Tuesday, February 18, 2025, employees of the German Red Cross (DRK) in Zittau visited the Active Assisted Living Lab (AAL Lab) in Görlitz. The model apartment, which is equipped with state-of-the-art AAL technology, offers innovative solutions to support older and disabled people in their everyday lives.

As part of the Saxony5 project, the AAL laboratory serves as a practical transfer and test environment for various technical assistance systems that enable a self-determined life. These include intelligent sensor technology, smart emergency call systems and aids that support everyday life and ensure greater safety and comfort.

During the visit, the DRK employees were given a tour of the show apartment and were able to see various technologies in action. The visitors were particularly impressed by the intelligent GPS soles, which can locate the residents of a care home and automatically send a message, as well as the voice-controlled heating control system, which enables barrier-free operation.

"These innovative technologies can help people in need of care to remain independent in their familiar surroundings for longer. Networking with care facilities such as the DRK in Zittau helps to put these solutions into practice and facilitates the integration of these technologies into care work."

The Active Assisted Living laboratory in Görlitz impressively demonstrates how modern technology can make everyday life easier and improve quality of life. With the transfer of knowledge into practice, the use of such technologies can be further promoted and made accessible to a broad population.
