Book exhibition in Zittau
"The Most Beautiful German Books" are back with us - from 31.05.2022, the books awarded by the Stiftung Buchkunst as the most beautiful books of 2021 can be admired and leafed through in the Zittau University Library.
"The most beautiful German books" - exemplary in design, concept and workmanship - are awarded prizes every year by an independent jury.
The "Stiftung Buchkunst Prize" is selected by a special jury from the 25 award-winning books.
"The "Stiftung Buchkunst Prize", endowed with 10,000 euros, goes to the book "Man kann keine Steine essen" (Prima Publikationen, Stuttgart/Basel).
The work, based on recipes and photographs by Japanese sculptor Shinroku Shimokawa, was created in collaboration with graphic designers Clara Neumann and Christina Schmid.
The artist's cookbook combines sculpture and cuisine: the author presents recipes for all seasons using collected, regional ingredients and home-made cooking utensils and interweaves them with stories. Two of Shimokawa's passions come together. He cuts up, sorts, processes, observes and stages the material. The kitchen becomes a workshop, the environment a source of inspiration and a natural pantry. Two photographic image layers - sculptural ingredients and dishes as well as documentary photos of the artistic works - create an overall composition that is both calm and full of tension, printed on slightly translucent paper and bound as a Swiss brochure with thread stitching. A rough, earthy cover turns the book itself into an object. Spectacularly simple, you could say, this cookbook."
