Do you know the DIN EN ISO 3758 standard? - I'm sure you do! This standard defines the small symbols on care labels sewn into textiles, so they look the same - regardless of whether the clothing was made in Vietnam or the USA.
Standards are of interest not only to technicians but also to non-technicians. And almost everyone has to deal with DIN EN ISO 216* on a daily basis.
To research standards, there is Perinorm - a bibliographic database and therefore actually without the full texts of the standards. However, as part of the Saxon state contract, access to the full texts of DIN and VDI standards is guaranteed via Perinorm. Previously, access was provided via the Saxon project DBoD - Database on Demand.
Perinorm has now been removed from this project and there is now direct access to the database and these standards. Bookmarks that may have been set for DBoD must be changed. The search mask has remained the same, so that the changeover is problem-free. The advantages are:
- it is faster,
- it is up-to-date,
- you can save the standard immediately,
- copy & paste function is available.
As before, access is via the University Library homepage or via
hsb.hszg.de/recherche/elektronische-medien/cd-rom-datenbanken.html
Good luck with your research!
* The best-known DIN standard specifies the A4 paper format at exactly 210 x 297 mm.
