The art of software engineering

A cooperative art project with changing themes

As a subfield of computer science, software engineering deals with the challenges of developing and enhancing software. The skills required for this are so multifaceted that different roles have been established within this specialist area, some of which differ greatly in terms of the skills they require. Examples include the software developer (e.g. technical IT skills) and the IT project manager (e.g. requirements management, customer orientation, leadership skills). In summary: it is of great value for the success of a class / course in this competence spectrum if students recognize and absorb the importance of holistic thinking, beyond prevailing clichés, as early as possible.

Art, as the highest form of articulation of free and creative thinking, represents an experimental didactic instrument for student activation, the effectiveness of which is put to the test in this project. Changing works whose themes are related to software engineering are exhibited in a showcase provided especially for this purpose in building G II (next to room 112).

The artist and computer science student, Ms. Marlene Knoche, is involved in the Linux Stammtisch in Görlitz and the Zittau Theatre Association, among others. She has also been an official conference blogger at the Heidelberg Laureate Forum (meeting of the world's top computer scientists and mathematicians,
