What do tourists do when they can't travel? They start a HIT!
In October 2020, it was clear that the "event managers" of the Tourism Management degree program would turn the University Information Day on 14 January 2021 into a HIT. At that time, the plans were still offline, but the situation changed almost daily until it became clear in January that the entire university information day would take place online. This included the opening event, which the students would plan, design and carry out themselves.
A few months, some frustration and a lot of excitement later, we "Touris" are standing in the auditorium of the Görlitz campus and are looking forward to welcoming you to the "HIT Morning Show". The technology is set up, the cameras are rolling and the sound is working. Our "host" Luisa goes through her presentation once again. She's a little excited, as she's "half the face of HIT". Half because we are all wearing face masks. Jonathan pays meticulous attention to this, after all he is our "expert in combating corona" and is responsible for compliance with all hygiene regulations. At 9.00 a.m. it's time to go:
Or would it if we didn't all have to be as quiet as mice, as the microphones in the room and therefore the online audience in the BBB can hear everything. After the Rector's address and a short interview with our Vice President for Education Sophia Keil, our Morning Show begins. And because a real morning show also includes prominent guests, we welcome Prof. Dr. Maiwald from the Faculty MK, Prof. Dr. Ten Hagen from the Faculty EI and Prof. Dr. Hoff from the Faculty S. But what would a university be without its students? So each faculty is also represented by student representatives. Our guests are Akram Ouzid (Tourism Management), Hoang Hiep Nguyen (Computer Science) and Valerie Neunzig (Communication Psychology). Our six guests will answer Luisa's questions in three rounds.
Flipcharts are rolled into the picture and off they go. After all, Maximilian and Luca have planned everything down to the minute and the aim is to answer Luisa's questions as creatively as possible. We find out what makes Görlitz such a special place to study (Berzi, beer and cheap apartments, to name just a few of the answers). That every party at the Maus is a legendary party and what a perfect day in Görlitz looks like. Our online audience will decide by poll which of the answers sketched or drawn under time pressure is the best. Our viewers can also ask their most burning questions. Two of them will be answered directly by our guests. And now our morning show is already over. These 45 minutes, which we worked towards for three months, have turned us into (almost) fully trained event managers.
Just as the "HIT Morning Show" ends with flowers for our guests, we end here with a virtual bouquet of flowers and a big thank you to:
Mr. Benad for his input, support and every ace up his sleeve
Julia Kowitzke, our mastermind and manager mom
Luisa Binsch for her successful moderation
Mr. Sommer for his technical support
Our guests for their time, participation and creative ideas
And to everyone we have forgotten here, but who deserve just as much thanks and who made this January 14 a HIT!
