Numerous young scientists and students from the HSZG represented at the "Young Scientist" conference.
Thanks to a new concept, the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences (HSZG) had a lively turnout at the trinational Polish-German-Czech "10th Conference of the Academic Coordination Center of the Nysa Euroregion (ACC) Young Scientist in Jelenia Góra" on 11 May 2016. For the first time, the HSZG sent two groups of conference participants, as not only young scientists represented the university with their conference contributions, but also students from younger Bachelor semesters took part in the event as listeners.
From the group of active participants, doctoral student Daniel Tasche gave a convincing presentation on "Privacy Preserving Distributed Data Mining for Enterprises: A Practical Approach." He received great applause from the audience, some of whom were from outside the field, as he communicated his complex scientific results with clear words and particular commitment. Mr. Tasche is a member of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science and his scientific work is supported by Prof. Dr. Jörg Lässig.
Master's student Krzysztof Stankiewicz (Faculty of Economics and Engineering, International Management course, in cooperation with the IHI), supervised by Prof. Dr. rer. pol. Johannes Laser, also impressed the conference jury with his contribution "The differences in the level of innovation national economies of Czech Republic, Germany and Poland" and was awarded 2nd prize in the "Students" category.
We are eagerly awaiting the publication of both papers in the conference journal!
However, the speakers at the conference did much more with their contribution than provide an insight into their results and activities, as they motivated the participating students from the university's Bachelor's degree programs to actively participate in the conference in the coming years.
Christian Freidhoff (Management in Healthcare) reported to his fellow students in a short statement afterwards: "It was a special experience to take part in this trinational conference. The feared English language barrier is not really a problem, the speakers and moderators are easy to understand. Due to the variety of topics, the technical understanding of the audience is somewhat limited, but for "conference newcomers" the contexts are usually explained very well by the speakers. The conversations during the breaks and at the buffet are also enriching - there is an impressive mix of languages including English, Polish, Czech and German. The informal atmosphere in Jelenia Góra encourages contact between the conference participants, distances between Liberec, Wroclaw and Görlitz melt away during the trip and the discussions - suddenly everything is close!"
This year, the coordinator of the ACC on the German side, Ms. Zonja-Stefania Szymanowski, invited all participants registered from the German side to this joint trip to the Hirschberg Valley on behalf of the ACC and the Rectorate of the HSZG. Anyone wishing to register for the two conferences in Liberec and Jelenia Góra next year, either as an active participant or as an audience member, should do so immediately, as the number of participants is limited at both conferences for reasons of space.
