Research Assistant in Production Engineering (m/f/d)

fixed-term position until February 28, 2026.

The program to promote the recruitment and development of faculty at universities of applied sciences supports these institutions in introducing and expanding structural measures to recruit academic excellence, enhances their visibility and appeal as employers, and increases equal opportunity, diversity, and work-life balance.

In the Department of Production Engineering at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, the project is seeking an individual interested in an academic career whose qualifications do not yet fully meet the requirements for tenure-track appointment. The scope of responsibilities can be customized to allow for a focus on areas such as research or teaching experience. In particular, the position involves the following duties:

  • Conducting classes / courses in the field of production engineering,
  • Supervising students in practice-oriented projects and final dissertations,
  • Contributing to the further development of teaching materials and curricula,
  • Conducting research papers in the field of production engineering,
  • Assisting with the planning and implementation of research projects.

The following knowledge and skills are required

  • A completed technical university degree (Master’s or Diplom degree course) in Mechanical Engineering/production engineering or a related discipline,
  • in-depth knowledge and practical experience in at least one of the following areas:
    • machine tools,
    • work planning,
    • process optimization/digitalization,
    • production planning and control,
  • Experience in conducting research projects and applying scientific methods,
  • Communication skills.

In addition, the following are desirable:

  • a completed Ph.D. in the field of production engineering,
  • teaching skills and experience in university-level instruction,
  • and a good command of English.

We expect you to

  • the ability to work independently and as part of a team,
  • a high degree of reliability,
  • a strong interest in academic work.
Further information

Compensation is provided up to Pay Grade 13 of the TV-L collective bargaining agreement, provided the personal qualifications are met. Applicants (m/f/d) who do not yet hold the required academic degree at the time of hire may be considered if it is reasonably clear that they will obtain it in the near future and if they meet the other requirements of the job profile.
