At the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences, Faculty of Social Sciences, a part-time position (24 hours per week) is available as soon as possible as part of the project “Retention of International University Graduates in Germany: Individual, Institutional, and Regional Factors—RegIA,” a part-time position (24 hours/week) as a
Research Assistant (m/f/d) — Reference: RegIA —
for a fixed term until September 30, 2025.
The RegIA project examines the individual, institutional, and regional factors that influence whether international students remain in Germany after graduation. To this end, existing data from national student surveys are analyzed, and a focused survey is conducted among international students in the final phase of their studies.
The position (m/f/d) involves the following tasks in particular:
- Supporting the project leadership and cooperation partners in the described research project,
- Assisting with the preparation and statistical analysis of existing quantitative survey data,
- Assisting in the conduct of qualitative interviews and group discussions with international students,
- Publishing research findings in national and international peer-reviewed journals,
- Presenting research findings at national and international conferences,
- Assisting with project administration and organization,
- Preparation of project reports.
The following knowledge and skills are required:
- a completed academic degree in a field related to the above-mentioned area of responsibility, with a focus on empirical social research, preferably in the social sciences, economics, or education (Master’s, Diplom, or accredited Master’s from a university of applied sciences),
- good or developable knowledge of collecting and analyzing quantitative and/or qualitative data,
- good written and spoken English skills.
In addition, the following are desirable:
- knowledge of software-based (Stata, R) analysis of quantitative survey data (multivariate statistics),
- alternatively: knowledge of planning and conducting qualitative interviews/focus groups,
- additional language skills, as well as
- experience in research and project management.
We expect you to have
- a strong interest in topics related to labor market, education, and migration research,
- enthusiasm for academic work and an interest in pursuing a Ph.D.,
- an independent, structured, and goal-oriented approach to work,
- a confident demeanor, strong communication skills, the ability to work under pressure, and the ability to work well in a team,
- a willingness and interest in furthering your professional and personal development, as well as
- a willingness to participate in meetings, conferences, and other business trips.
Salary is based on the TV-L pay scale up to Pay Grade 13, provided the candidate meets the personal qualifications. The primary place of work is Görlitz.
