The Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, is seeking to fill a position (40 hours/week) as soon as possible as part of the RUBIN Enviroplast project, funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF):
Research Assistant (m/f/d) in Materials Science
- Reference: 39-2024 RUBIN-MW -
for a fixed term until May 31, 2027.
The position holder will have the following responsibilities in particular:
- Making a scientific contribution to a clean, decarbonized future based on sustainable engineered plastic components,
- Leading and managing research projects in the field of biocomposites,
- Coordinating and conducting scientific experiments with CO₂-negative plastic composites using biogenic waste materials,
- Developing and analyzing plastic compounds with natural fibers and fillers derived from waste materials,
- Research and development in the field of new process technologies for natural fiber-reinforced plastics,
- Close collaboration with partners from industry and academia,
- Attending international industry events (trade shows, conferences, etc.) to facilitate scientific exchange and publish research findings.
The following knowledge and skills are required
- A completed scientific college degree in Mechanical Engineering, process engineering, materials science, or a comparable field,
- Practical experience in plastics engineering and the processing of plastics or compounds,
- Ability to work in a team and interest in professional exchange,
- Business-level proficiency in spoken and written English.
In addition, the following are desirable:
- Experience in compounding and materials analysis,
- experience in preparing scientific publications,
- experience in managing and securing research projects.

Salary is based on the TV-L pay scale up to pay grade 13, provided the candidate meets the personal qualifications. The primary place of employment is Zittau.
