for a fixed term ending April 30, 2026.

AIMS5.0 (Artificial Intelligence for Manufacturing Leading to Sustainability and Industry 5.0) is a European research project in the high-tech industry that aims to strengthen Europe’s digital sovereignty in the context of comprehensively sustainable production. The project and its consortium of 53 partners from academia and industry across Europe intend to increase productivity through the use of AI-enabled hardware and software components and systems across the entire industrial value chain.
New technologies from the Internet of Things, based on Semantic Web ontologies, ML (machine learning), and AI (artificial intelligence), are intended to facilitate the transition from Industry 4.0 to Industry 5.0 for European manufacturers and to create human-centered working conditions as well as climate-friendly production.

As part of the AIMS5.0 subproject, the Chair of Business Administration, specializing in Production Management and Logistics, at the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences is investigating optimization approaches for human-AI interfaces in European semiconductor manufacturing.

The project objectives are:

  1. To investigate decision-making situations in production management and determine the requirements for human decision-makers and AI,
  2. To improve human-AI collaboration in these decision-making situations through interpretable AI and visualizations,
  3. To evaluate human-AI collaboration based on the quality of the decisions made in terms of social, economic, and environmental sustainability.

The position specifically involves the following tasks:

  • Applying and evaluating machine learning algorithms and methods for decision-making processes in production management,
  • Conceptualization, design, and evaluation of data and information visualizations,
  • Experimental research design and conducting experiments,
  • Analysis of qualitative survey methods,
  • Deriving practical recommendations for the transferability of results,
  • Scientific dissemination of project results at (international) conferences and in academic journals,
  • Reporting,
  • If necessary, acting as a substitute for the project manager.

The following knowledge and skills are required

  • A university degree in a scientific field, preferably in Engineering Management, computer science, economics, or a related department,
  • Knowledge of quantitative and qualitative research methods,
  • Proficiency in working with databases and programming skills,
  • Knowledge of project management,
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.

In addition, the following are desirable:

  • knowledge of the semiconductor industry and manufacturing,
  • knowledge of data visualization,
  • an interest in psychological and sociological issues at the intersection of production and management.

Salary is based on pay grade 13 of the TV-L collective bargaining agreement, provided the candidate meets the personal qualifications. The primary place of work is Zittau.
