At Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences, Faculty of Natural Sciences, a position (40 hours/week) is available as soon as possible as part of the SAB/JTF-funded “GreenPharming” project:

Research Assistant GreenPharming (m/f/d)

fixed-term position through June 30, 2026.

The “GreenPharming” project focuses on developing bioactive compounds in tobacco plants, with an emphasis on the circular economy and climate neutrality. As part of this interdisciplinary project, the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences is specifically optimizing the infiltration of tobacco plants and downstream processing.

The position holder is responsible for researching and continuously refining these processes.

His or her responsibilities include:

  • Expression of protein active ingredients in tobacco plants,
  • Preparation of binary vectors for the infiltration of tobacco plants,
  • Extraction of plant material and purification of recombinant protein active ingredients,
  • Supervising students in research projects and final dissertations,
  • Publication of research results in national and international peer-reviewed journals,
  • Presentation of research results at national and international conferences,
  • Assistance with project management and organization,
  • Preparation of project reports.

The following knowledge and skills are required

  • A completed scientific university degree (Master’s/Diplom) in biotechnology, biology, biochemistry, or a related field,
  • Proficiency in standard methods in the field of molecular biology and protein biochemistry,
  • Experience in the expression and characterization of recombinant proteins,
  • Good practical knowledge in the field of protein purification and analysis,
  • Knowledge of genetic technology for the modification of plants,
  • Good written and spoken English skills.

In addition, the following are desirable:

  • Experience in the cultivation of tobacco plants and in the digestion of plant tissues,
  • knowledge of the characterization of transgenic plants,
  • Experience in project management.

Further information

Salary is based on pay grade 13 of the TV-L collective bargaining agreement, provided the candidate meets the personal qualifications. The primary place of employment is Zittau.
