In the "GreenPharming" project, biological active ingredients are being developed in tobacco plants, taking into account the circular economy and climate neutrality. As part of this interdisciplinary project, the infiltration of tobacco plants and downstream processing in particular are being optimized at the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences.

The job holder will be responsible for researching and continuously developing the processes.

His/her tasks include

• Expression of protein drugs in tobacco plants,
• Preparation of binary vectors for the infiltration of tobacco plants,
• disruption of the plant material and purification of the recombinant protein active substances,
• Guidance of students in student project/thesis work,
• Publication of research results in national and international peer-reviewed journals,
• Presentation of research results at national and international conferences,
• Support with project administration and organization,
• Preparation of project reports.

The following knowledge and skills are required

• Completed scientific university degree (Master/Diploma) in the field of biotechnology, biology, biochemistry or a related subject,
• Proficiency in standard methods in the field of molecular biology and protein biochemistry,
• Experience in the expression and characterization of recombinant proteins,
• Good practical knowledge in the field of protein purification and analysis,
• Knowledge of genetic modification of plants,
• Good written and spoken English language skills.

In addition, the following are desirable

• Experience in the cultivation of tobacco plants and in the disruption of plant tissue,
• Knowledge in the characterization of transgenic plants,
• Experience in project management.
