We mourn the loss of Professor Annett Fuchs

We were shocked to hear the news of the death of Professor Annett Fuchs.

We are deeply saddened to announce that Professor Annett Fuchs has passed away. After having hoped for her for a long time, we are stunned by her death. She passed away far too early on December 19, 2020, after a difficult and bravely endured illness.

Professor Fuchs played a key role in the development and advancement of the Faculty of Natural and Environmental Sciences. She was appointed Professor of Biochemistry at our university in 2006. For 14 years, she worked with enormous commitment in teaching and towards students, but also in university self-administration. For many years, Annett Fuchs was a member of the faculty council, responsible for degree programs and chair of the examination board. A chemist by training, she has always remained true to her convictions regarding the quality of scientific degree programs and fair treatment of students. From 2015-2018, she shaped the further development of the Faculty of Natural and Environmental Sciences as Dean and initiated and moderated important modernization processes. In addition to her tasks in teaching and self-administration, she never lost sight of research, created framework conditions and accompanied students all the way to their doctorates.

Students, alumni and her colleagues mourn the loss of an extremely committed, open and positive fellow human being. She will be remembered with honor.

Our deepest sympathy goes to her family.

Prof. Dr.-Ing. Alexander Kratzsch, Rector of Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences and Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Jens Weber, Dean of the Faculty of Natural and Environmental Sciences
