We mourn the loss of Professor Annett Fuchs

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Professor Annett Fuchs. After holding out hope for so long, her death has left us stunned. She passed away far too soon on December 19, 2020, following a serious illness that she bore with great courage.

Professor Fuchs played a key role in the development and advancement of the Faculty of Natural and Environmental Sciences. In 2006, she was appointed professor of biochemistry at our university. For 14 years, she demonstrated tremendous dedication not only to teaching and supporting students but also to university self-governance. For many years, Annett Fuchs served as a member of the Faculty Council, program director, and chair of the examination board. As a trained chemist, she always remained true to her convictions regarding the quality of science degree programmes and the fair treatment of students. From 2015 to 2018, she shaped the further development of the Faculty of Natural and Environmental Sciences as Dean, initiating important modernization processes and guiding them as a facilitator. In addition to her responsibilities in teaching and self-governance, she never lost sight of research; she created the necessary conditions and supported students all the way to their doctorates.

Students, alumni, and her colleagues mourn the loss of an exceptionally dedicated, open-minded, and positive colleague. She remains in our memories as a person of great honor.
