Energy supply of the future
During his visit, Member of the Bundestag Torsten Herbst saw for himself how well the HSZG operates.
In early January 2023, the Rector of Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences, Prof. Alexander Kratzsch, met with Torsten Herbst, the parliamentary secretary of the FDP parliamentary group in the Bundestag, at our university’s Görlitz campus. Mr. Herbst, a member of the Bundestag, was accompanied by Kristin Schütz, chairwoman of the Görlitz district chapter of the FDP.
The purpose of the meeting was for the two parties to get to know one another. In particular, the Rector highlighted the University of Zittau/Görlitz’s achievements in teaching, research, and administration. Given Mr. Herbst’s role in the German Bundestag, the focus was on federally funded research projects centered on energy technology and LaNDER³.
Among other things, Prof. Kratzsch gave his guests insights into the Zittau Power Plant Laboratory and the collaboration between Stadtwerke Zittau GmbH and Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences—a partnership that is likely unique in Germany.

”He also presented the AQVA HEAT structural change project. As part of this application-oriented project, researchers at the IPM Institute of the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences are working on solutions for the thermal use of water. These two examples clearly demonstrate that the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences is actively contributing to the transformation of the energy supply.
