Future Factory Lausitz proposed
Large-scale research center for water, energy and nutrition with the participation of the HSZG to provide solutions for global resource demands in the future
Available resources are becoming increasingly scarce worldwide. Now, the “Zukunftsfabrik Lausitz”—a strong consortium of Saxon research institutions and numerous supporters from the business community and the Lausitz region—aims to offer forward-looking solutions and provide answers to pressing questions.
The project partners—comprising the Fraunhofer Society, the Technical Universities of Dresden and Freiberg, the Dresden University of Applied Sciences, and the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences—are working closely with their supporters to foster strong collaboration and are proposing the large-scale research center “WE²T-Transfer – Zukunftsfabrik Lausitz – Research and Transfer Center for Water, Energy, and Food Technologies.” Interdisciplinary teams aim to combine modern technologies with the principles of the circular economy on a real-world scale. The goal: to drastically reduce the consumption of water, energy, and usable land.
Looking ahead, the concept centered on the large-scale research center in the Saxon region of Lausitz—which was submitted to the “Knowledge Creates Prospects for the Region!” competition under the leadership of Fraunhofer, aims to create 1,500 direct jobs with an annual budget of 170 million euros.
