The Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences is seeking to fill a W2 professorship in the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering as soon as possible in the field of

Production Engineering
- Reference Number: MM-030 -

on a full-time basis.

The position involves serving as a substitute for the above-mentioned professorship in teaching and research, with a particular focus on the following areas:

  • Factory and production planning,
  • Production systems (including smart factories, digitalization, and simulation),
  • process control, process optimization, and material flow engineering.

Teaching responsibilities include lectures, seminars, exercises, lab sessions, and projects, as well as continuing education courses. The ability and willingness to participate in integrative, practice-oriented, and internship-based teaching units are required. Classes / courses must also be taught in English. The appointee is expected to teach classes / courses related to the field of appointment.

In addition to teaching responsibilities, the appointee must independently carry out research and development tasks in the field of appointment. A corresponding level of commitment is required. The appointee must actively contribute to the internationalization of the university and the further development of the department. Responsibilities in academic self-governance must be assumed. In addition, involvement in projects related to knowledge and technology transfer is expected.

Appointment Requirements

Requirements for appointment include a completed academic degree, demonstrated pedagogical aptitude in teaching or training, a special aptitude for academic work—which is generally demonstrated by the quality of a doctoral dissertation— as well as outstanding achievements in the application or development of academic knowledge and methods during a period of professional experience typically lasting five years, of which at least three years must have been spent outside the higher education sector.

The Saxon Higher Education Act of May 31, 2023 (SächsGVBl. p. 329), as last amended by Article 2 of the Act of January 31, 2024 (SächsGVBl. p. 83).

The following knowledge and skills are required:

  • a completed academic degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline,
  • evidence of special aptitude for in-depth, independent academic work (usually to be demonstrated by an above-average doctoral dissertation relevant to the field),
  • demonstrable alignment of the professional career with the content and responsibilities of the professorship,
  • the ability to foster the professional identity of our students, to impart relevant subject knowledge, and to identify with the specific challenges of the discipline (pedagogical and didactic aptitude), with relevant teaching experience to be demonstrated,
  • Experience in applied research and knowledge transfer,
  • Experience in the design, establishment, and accreditation of degree programs, as well as in securing external funding, is advantageous.
