The Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences is seeking to fill a W2 professorship in the Faculty of Managerial and Cultural Studies as soon as possible in the field of

Cultural Management and Cultural Policy
- Reference Number: MK-050 -

on a full-time basis.

The future incumbent is expected to independently represent the aforementioned field in teaching and research. The professorship plays a foundational role in the culture and management degree programme and serves as an interdisciplinary link within the faculty.

The professorship is expected to cover the following areas of teaching and research:

  • Management of cultural organizations,
  • Cultural policy with a focus on cultural funding and financing strategies,
  • Cultural mediation and cultural economics with an emphasis on sustainable transformation processes and regional development.

Teaching responsibilities are to be fulfilled through classes / courses, seminars, workshops, internships, and projects, as well as through continuing education programs. Classes / courses must also be taught in English. Where appropriate, the professor may be required to teach classes / courses in fields related to the area of appointment. The teaching units must be ensured university-wide.

In addition to teaching responsibilities, the appointee must independently carry out research and development tasks in the field of appointment, actively contribute to the internationalization and further development of the discipline, and assume responsibilities in academic self-governance. Furthermore, close integration between the cultural sector/cultural institutions and degree programs, as well as involvement in applied research projects and knowledge transfer initiatives, is expected.

The incumbent is expected to play an active, shaping role in the expansion of the faculty. This includes, in particular, taking the lead in terms of content and concept in the further development of the cultural and management degree programs (Bachelor and master’s).

Appointment Requirements

Requirements for appointment include a completed university degree, proven pedagogical aptitude in teaching or training, a special aptitude for scholarly work—typically demonstrated by a doctoral degree or equivalent scholarly achievements— as well as outstanding achievements in the application or development of scholarly knowledge and methods gained through, as a rule, five years of professional experience, at least three of which must have been gained outside the higher education sector.

The Saxon Higher Education Act of May 31, 2023 (SächsGVBl. p. 329), as last amended by Article 2 of the Act of January 31, 2024 (SächsGVBl. p. 83).

The following knowledge and skills are required:

  • a completed academic degree in a field relevant to the area of appointment,
  • evidence of special aptitude for in-depth, independent scholarly work (usually demonstrated by an outstanding doctoral dissertation in a relevant field),
  • demonstrable alignment of the professional career with the content and responsibilities of the professorship,
  • the ability to foster our students’ professional identity, to impart relevant subject-specific knowledge, and to demonstrate an identification with the specific phenomena of the discipline (pedagogical and didactic aptitude), for which relevant teaching experience must be demonstrated,
  • experience in applied research, knowledge transfer, and networking,
  • Experience in the design, establishment, and accreditation of degree programmes, in securing external funding, and strong digital competencies in modern teaching methods are advantageous.
